    University of Kentucky Campus Gallery Hop

    September 15th 4-7pm.Campus Gallery Hop logo

    The HWM will join University of Kentucky art organizations in their campus-wide gallery hop. Students and staff are encouraged to follow the designated map to see what wonderful art opportunities surround them. The HWM will be located in the Cat's Den. Pick up your map at the HWM.

    Museum Go Round
    Free Children's Art Activity

The Headley-Whitney Museum will be participating in Museum Go Round. Join us for a free children's skeleton marionette activity. We will be downtown from 10-1 at Triangle Park. This is an on-going event, children can drop in at any time to participate.

    The Headley-Whitney Museum came to the Farmer's Market for a free children's vegetable printing activity. Children took away decorative bags painted by fruit and vegetables.

    The Headley-Whitney Museum participated in Lexington's St. Patrick's Day Celebration this year at the Courthouse Plaza. We offered participants a chance to create a pen in a pot of gold!

    Arts Showcase Weekend:

    Feb. 6, 2010 11:00- 1:00

    For this year's Arts Showcase Weekend, presented by LexArts, the Museum hosted a booth for children to decorate their own unique box to take home to use for play or decoration. Participants received a free gemstone for participating!

    Museum GO Round :
    Oct. 17, 2009 11:00- 4:00

    We would like to invite you to participate in decorating your very own lucky horseshoe at Museum GO Round. Representatives from the Museum will be on hand assisting children in decorating take-home horseshoes to celebrate our current exhibition: Spanish Mustangs: Photographs by John S. Hockensmith. This is a Free event held downtown on Short Street.

    Woodland Art Fair:
    Aug. 16, 2009 11:00- 1:00

    In preparation for the upcoming exhibition, Spanish Mustangs: Photographs by John S. Hockensmith, children at the Woodland Art Fair created their own horse mask. Each child recieved their own construction paper mask, paint pens, and paper and was free to let their imagination run unbridled. This was a Free event held at Woodland Park.

    Masks from Around the World – Drop-In Art Activity
    Feb. 7, 2009

    For this year's Arts Showcase Weekend, presented by LexArts, the Museum hosted a booth for children and their families to see, touch, and learn about examples of masks from the world over. Participants then used our vast supply of materials to create their own unique masks to take home to use for play or decoration. This free event was held at Arts Place.

    As a part of the CarnegieCenter's Celebrate Culture themed Family Fun and Learning Night the Museum hosted a booth for children to experience, learn about, and create examples of masks from cultures around the world. Free event, registration required through the CarnegieCenter.

    Woodland Art Fair:
    Aug. 16, 2008

    While parents browsed the artworks on display at the fair, children joined representatives from the Museum to create their own pieces of art to take home and use. Everyone enjoyed decorating small sized terra cotta pots. Free event held at Woodland Park.

    Take Pride in the Bluegrass:
    May 10 – May 18, 2008

    During the 5th annual Take Pride in the Bluegrass celebration both local residents and visitors to the region took the opportunity to discover the area's cultural treasures. As a part of this week-long event the Headley-Whitney Museum, in addition to more than sixty other local tourist attractions, opened its doors free of charge.

    YMCA's Healthy Kids Day:
    Couture Racing Season Hats!

    On Wednesday, April 2nd the Museum took part in the YMCA of Central Kentucky's Healthy Kids Day. More than 800 children and chaperones attended the event held at Champ's Roller Dome. The Museum hosted a craft booth where children made newspaper sunhats that were then decorated with oversized tissue paper flowers in honor of the start of spring and horse racing season.

    Arts Showcase Weekend:
    You Be the Designer!

    The Headley-Whiney Museum is excited to have been a part of the 4th annual Arts Showcase Weekend (February 9th & 10th) presented by LexArts! The weekend long event featured activities and demonstrations put on by artists and organizations all around town. Most of the offerings were free and geared toward a family audience.

    As a part of Arts Showcase Weekend, on Sunday, February 10th, the Headley-Whitney Museum offered a children's craft activity based on our temporary exhibition: Dramatic Design.

    Dramatically Designed Winter Wear: Make Your Own Fleece Cape!
    Participants had the opportunity to try their hand at fashion design- creating fleece capes to take home and wear throughout the winter and seasons beyond. Using colored fleece fabric, ribbons, buttons and other mixed media, everyone had a great time creating some very unique pieces!
